It was a perfect summery sunday. The heat waves were like the inside of an oven. The clothes dried in 2 hours, record time as I sat to watch The ballad of a soldier, an old russian masterpiece in Cinemax. Taj enlighten, is an elite club that showcases movies of the yesteryears and the present that are simply masterpieces. I was lucky to have free passes from a close friend and I jumped at the opportunity of watching world cinema. I love world cinema. I love people. Mostly, conversations, expressions, idiosyncrasies, the craziness and the love. Feelings of love are have a pretty much similar pattern, right? Look at love actually, Colin Firth in his juncture of isolation stumbles upon a simple french beauty. It's magical isn't it? The hesitations and the acceptance because the heart just doesn't stop fluttering as 'the one' passes by. Ballad of a soldier is something like Mother India-ish, in its masterpiece language. But so much more lighter and kind. It's about understanding and empathy. It's about responsibilty, it's about believing in morals and family values.
A young boy, all of 19, is sent on the front, who bravely blows up 2 enemy tanks and is granted to go home on a leave to fix his mother's roof! The story begins from there as the boy helps his acquaintances and luckily even falls in love. It is bittersweet towards the end and beautifully acted by the russian actors. After watching it, I really wondered that India never experienced war on land, because war changed a lot of things in Russia. They made men out of women. With men being on the front, it was the women who made sure the house was alive and that there was food for a living.
The red lounge really pampers you with recliner seating and soft, cushion feel.
Next sunday, it plays the cranes are flying. Hopefully, will go see it.
