Scene 1: Wedding 1: Action!

Jigs, our closest pal, from college, though from a different section, but a cool buddy, always a ready smile, and desperate for love. He did find the girl of his dreams, and well, and the day was set for them to get married. I missed out on his engagement party, and knowing that he would be upset with me, for that, he hadn't called me. And on my birthday, one of the best I've had, with phone calls ranging till 11pm, I got a call from this darling friend of mine, reprimanding me for not attending his engagement party, and then wishing me on my birthday :)
How could I not go?Especially for one, who's been there for you day in and day out, or more so, someone you can trust your life with? How can you not see the joy of the person for whom today was to be the happiest day of his life?
We went. Attended the well-co-ordinated wedding. With all women given a dress code of gold and red, we stoodout as westernized versions of traditionality..lol...if it really means anything ever. But yeah, was decent, met up with a few old faces, which I have come to really adore. And then since I was on a tight schedule, headed for another wedding at Goregaon, of a friend who's been my room-mate, and close-pal, for sometime. We skipped lunch, which was supposedly to be served at 4:30!!
4:30??
You gotta be kidding me. We left the wedding, empty-growling stomach. cribbing on our way as the stomach upset everyone around us, and barged into a 2nd class train, equally angry with the commuters. Stormed into a restaurant, gobbled pav bhaji, went home, dressed-up again. And finally left for the other wedding, reassuring ourselves of having a good time.
Scene 2: Wedding 2: Action!!
It's 7pm. Calls. where are you? Reach fast! Wedding has begun! Coming!! says me. So this is how that autorickshaw ride took us uphill to a place in goregaon, it seemed like taking a vacation in the middle of the weekday. And when we finally thought we've reached, we found a car waiting to escort us to the venue. Bloody hell!! Why the hell do you keep weddings in Disneyland castles that are so far away that aren't visible to the naked eye?!
Nevermind.
We arrive. As usual bride looking gorgeous as ever. So is the groom. Troubled parents from recession. And adorable crowd dressed up for the evening. Oh i was too, a sari if you may, hehe..did my bit, made it special 4 ma good friend. And well, got her a gift that I'm darn sure she'd cherish for a lifetime...hehe...so well, had a glass of juice, and waited for the party to begin, suddenly, I get a whisper, "We've gotta move". Rickshaws waiting" and "You know there's no transportation out of this jungle besides that, you have gotta take a call"
And so I did.
We had to leave.
Without the food!!!
We hop into the rickshaw, drop my mom to a mall, where her friends pick her up for a wedding. And me in my sari and my friend wallowing with"NO FOOD!!
NO Wedding bloody Food!!What's the point in going to a wedding, where you don't eat the food??
Wedding food is important, here's why. It's complete with 30 odd dishes, which satisfy your every desire, longing, waiting, and yearning, from head to toe. It's also complete with chocolates, mithais, sweetmeats, so anything closer to tantalising robust appetite of a sweet tooth is completely satisfied. And most importantly, the variety in some places is so mind bogglingly rich, that you just love the idea of having so much food surrounding you that you end up feeling even fuller than your self and vow never to stuff yourself for a million years..AS IF. I only wish these guys started encouraging us parcels or takeaways!
So, we didn't get any. As the American Pie guy would say.
We were standing right outside Oberoi mall. And believe me, it's humongous. And I looked at it, with weary eyes, and told my compatriot, dude, I'm going in getting myself a fantastic top, and wearing these pants inside my saree, and slipping on these stilettos, and strutting out with a frankie in one hand. Spontaneity had grabbed my heart. We were up for mischief.Basically, we were totally mesmerised by the idea of retail therapy!

Stormed the lifestyle store, grabbed a Bossini b/w top, pulled up my track pants, walked with barenaked feet to the payment counter, swiped my card, told them to read off the tags from my clothes, and Voila! while I headed back, the security watchwoman helped me fold my sari as my compatriot tried on some things and well, we both walked out hunting for a perfect place to chill.
Since both of us were real low on cash, we knew we had to head into a restaurant which accepted plastic and we wanted meat!!!That's what we did. We walked into aromas of china. Treated ourselves to red wine, and sombre mushroom chicken and laughed till we cried. And our fortune cookie ended the day by announcing to me that I'm going to take a chance on something in the future. I've always taken a chance on everything.
So hell, I'm back to square one.
The day has ended on a sour holiday turned sweet. So, it was a memorable day. One that I will remember for a real long time.
Btw. My shoes. I forgot to tell you. I bought incredibly lovely shoes. ;)
